APPLIED SCIENCE & HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT

The Department is multi-disciplinary in nature with faculty from diverse disciplines such as Engineering Chemistry, Engineering Maths, Applied Physics, and Communication Skills. The curriculum is in tune with the rapid advancements in the respective domains and makes education unique. Department provides an encouraging environment to grasp the fundamental concepts of problem solving ability of its students so that they become technocrats of caliber. The Department of Humanities plays a unique and distinctive role in an Institute where the ethos of science and Technology prevails. It is believed that Engineers and science are by their very nature, humanistic and socially derived enterprises. Hence a complete science and Technology education must include social and behavioral science, where the students unite applications of scientific principles along with human, moral and social understanding.

Applied Science and Humanities is dedicated to lay the foundation of a student in the fundamental sciences and basic humanities like Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry, Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Humanities & Management Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Professional Communication. The well-equipped laboratories and rich curriculum provide ample opportunities to budding engineers to have hands-on experience of laws and facts of science and develop and inculcate scientific attitude among them.

 The department of Applied Sciences & Humanities is committed to inculcate expertise in the students in the field of basic sciences, technology, communication skill and personality development so that they can make the world a better place and contribute to an ever-changing global society.

MISSION:

 

Ø  To provide strong foundation to the students through basic courses and value added teaching in areas of technical field, innovation, personality development & competitive abilities and guide for their respective discipline.

Ø  To provide students with a flexible yet solid learning infrastructure through proactive and adaptive service systems.

Ø  To create and propagate knowledge and tools at the interfaces between areas of engineering, emerging trends of industries and other core areas of Applied Sciences and Humanities.

Ø  To provide a unique learning environment for the students, preparing the students at par with the global technical workforce, building confidence, character and human values.

Ø  To apply the seed ideas of research in fundamental science to technology through virtual laboratories, micro projects and innovative experiments.

Importance of the Applied Science & Communication Skill in Engineering:

A good background in mathematics is likely to be an excellent basis for success in an engineering program. In electrical engineering physics has valuable importance, besides mathematics and English. In other fields such as chemical engineering and environmental engineering chemistry may be even more important than physics. For biomedical engineering, biology and life sciences may be more important.

Good communication skills by themselves, with no analytic basis, are not likely to be sufficient. However, neither would excellent analytical basis will be sufficient if it is not coupled with the ability to communicate well.

Applied science is the way of making almost all tangible technological impacts on society. It is what takes theory, study, and data and turns it into practical, usable items (Software, Computer Hardware, Medical Technology, Physical products etc.)

Applied science is important as it enables science to be more applicable in the real life. Without applied science, great scientific discoveries may be limited as it will only increase human knowledge, which is important but underutilized.

Applied Science takes results of research in the “pure science” like physics and mathematics, and uses them to actually create new technologies; new social processes, new materials and medical treatments, and introduces those new scientific concepts into society and exploits them to our advantage.  You don’t get trains, planes, or automobiles without Engineers; you don’t implement new ways of education or new methods to treat diseases based on research. So that simple fact seems to indicate quite clearly that applied science is EXTREMELY important to almost every pocket of humanity across the Earth.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BASIC SCIENCE AND APPLIED SCIENCE.

Basic science or “pure” science seeks to expand knowledge regardless of the short-term application of that knowledge. It is not focused on developing a product or a service of immediate public or commercial value. The goal of basic science is knowledge for knowledge’s sake; though this does not mean that, in the end, it may not result in a practical application.

In contrast, applied science or “technology” aims to use science to solve real-world problems such as improving crop yields, finding a cure for a particular disease, or saving animals threatened by a natural disaster. In applied science, the problem is usually defined for the researcher.

                                                                                     

Knowledge in applied science is an important ingredient of every professional course. Department of Applied Science and Humanities offers Applied Sci. & Humanities courses as prescribed by the syllabus of Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, Lonere Dist.Raigad for first year B.Tech program. This Department imparts the knowledge of fundamental sciences and mathematics to students as the backbone of Engg. & Technology is developed by these subjects. It is needed to build a better foundation for the prospective and promising Engineers. The Department is fulfilled by strong academic profile, dedicated and talented faculty members to achieve the organization goals.

The department has all the required labs well equipped with all modern techniques and instruments for smooth conduction of practical’s of first year B.Tech course as per the syllabus & scheme of DBATU, Lonere, Dist. Raigad.
